For the next half year, I've traded biking in Amsterdam for driving in Los Angeles... and a residency at the Art Center College of Design. Spring 2008, Los Angeles will have its Biggest Visual Power Show. A call for proposals will be out soon.

The Fake FOR REAL Memory Game playfully visualises the clasical theme of fake and real. Is everything that was ounce directly experienced, in our media society replaced by simulation? Or are reproduction and imitation naturally part of life? Can you tell the fake from the real? Judge for yourself. Fake for Real!
Fake for Real Memory Game Editorial Team: Koert van Mensvoort, Hendrik Jan Grievink, Mieke Gerritzen, Arnoud van den Heuvel, Rolf Coppens, Edwin Degenhart All Media / Bis Publishers ISBN 978-90-63-69-177-6 Price 19,90 Euro

The Venezuelan magazine Plátanoverde interviewed me on Próxima Naturaleza and its implications on art, design, sex, religion and what it means to be human. Serious questions and I seriously had to think of the answers. The English transcript of the interview is posted HERE.

Next weekend is a good moment for a picnic. The Ministerie van Turen invited me to their strawcastle for a nice picnic dinner with presentations and debate about Next Nature. Expect good food, good video and fresh air. All summer, the Ministry organizes these picnic events, which are open to the public.

Note to self: When you are working on what you thought was a scientific problem, consider the possibility that the solution is not a text.

13th of June I will give a twenty-image-twenty-seconds presentation at PechaKucha, which roughly translates as from Japan chit-chat or noisy chatter. Pecha Kucha Night offers the audience the experience of a dazzling range of speakers and images in the course of one evening. I plan to chit-chat about my explorations in Next Nature.

Touch can play a powerful role in communication. It can offer an immediacy and intimacy unparalleled by words, sounds or images. Powercursor is a software toolkit that enables interaction designers to add a sense of feel to their Flash interfaces without difficult programming. The software engine consists of a set of force field objects that can be added to any Flash project: holes, hills, slopes, roughs, walls, whirls, and more.

I regularly meet people who I suspect of having no lives. They are alive, of course. They breathe, they move, their hearts beat. But it's not convincing. It's not that they don't do things. They go to parties, take holidays - in fact, they take a lot of holidays. But to me their behaviour comes across as fully instrumentally programmed in fixed, predictable patterns. They are fleshy machines, not living beings. Of course, it is impossible to prove that these people have no lives, and so we keep on smiling discreetly and try not to break each other's trance. Ball of Being is online. A flash dance film featuring atoms, planets, footballs, globes, foam and molecules. It is uncertain whether we are entering a microscopic nanoworld, virtual spheres or an infinite universe far away. Enjoy the ride.

Last weekend over 450 youngkids gathered in Utrecht for the battle of creativity Kunstbende. Of course, the singing Indian gay Moroccan duo with the controversial plastic doll girlfriend won in the category 'anything goes' of which I was jury chair. Pity my bike was stolen when I left the building, but overall a wonderful day (pictures).

For a long time now, I have been secretly working on an online dance film featuring atoms, planets, balls, globes, foam and molecules. The work will be premiered at IMPAKT FESTIVAL, during the couch club that aims to investigate the gray areas between the two superpowers: art and science.

At the edge of the woods along the motorway, stands a mobile telephone mast disguised as a pine tree. This mast is not nature: at best, it is a picture of nature. It is an illustration, like a landscape painting hanging over the sofa. Do we have genuine experiences of nature any more? Or are we living in a picture of it? Real Nature is not Green.
